Wondering if university academics are different than high school? The SLG Program is here to help! The SLG Program wants to help you bridge the academic transition from high school to university. SLGs stand for Supported Learning Groups - weekly study sessions open for all students enrolled in twelve different first year courses. They’re free and you can come as often as you like! SLG sessions can help students of all levels connect what to learn in their classes with how to learn in a university setting. SLGs are a great chance to meet with other students in your class to compare your notes, discuss important concepts, develop strategies and test yourself before the professor does. Been there, done that…the SLG leader actually has! SLG sessions are lead by an SLG leader - a student like you, who has taken the same course before and done well. They are prepared to share with you what they have learned about how to study the course material, how to become content competent, and how to better retain what you learn. They will be in lecture with you and are trained to help you think about the lectures you hear and the material you read, and help you figure it all out during SLG sessions - so that you can learn the course material more effectively and efficiently. SLGs will be offered in these first year courses during the Fall 2011 semester: BIOL 1080 Biological Concepts of Health BIOL 1090 Intro to Molecular & Cellular Biology CHEM 1040 General Chemistry I CHEM 1050 General Chemistry II ECON 1050 Introductory Microeconomics ECON 1100 Introductory Macroeconomics HIST 1010 Europe & Early Modern World HIST 1250 Science & Society since 1500 MATH 1080 Elements of Calculus I PHYS 1020 Introductory Physics PSYC 1100 Principles of Behaviour PSYC 1200 Dynamics of Behaviour If you’re in any of these classes in September, keep an eye out for the SLG leaders – they will be introducing themselves and making announcements in class. Be sure to visit our web site (www.slg.uoguelph.ca) in the fall for the latest listing of SLG session times and locations, or visit us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/guelph.slg.program for more information. As you begin your adventures at Guelph, be sure to let SLGs help you tap into the endless possibilities of your academic potential! Courtesy, Your friendly neighbourhood SLG Staff |

Hey everyone,
I just want to say that the SLG Program is a GREAT resource that I highly recommend you take advantage of if/when you find yourself in any of the classes listed. Not only is it great if you do not understand a concept or theory, but it’s also extremely helpful for getting some extra studying in before a mid-term. My roommates and I went to a lot of the ECON 1050 and ECON 1100 sessions and they were really helpful.
So hopefully you all will come out to some of these SLG sessions
