First is a collection of resources, services and technologies designed to help you make a smooth and successful transition to university learning. From time management workshops to research help and laptop loans — it's all here through First at the Learning Commons, located on the first floor of the Library:

Basically, First draws together a variety of services to create a one-stop shop for you. You can come to the Learning Commons for information and help with:
Writing essays, lab reports, and papers
Managing their time
Finding articles from scholarly journals and books
Avoiding academic misconduct and plagiarism
Attending Supported Learning Groups (SLGs)
Computing, email and password resets
Studying efficiently and effectively
Using referencing and citation styles

Located on the 1st floor of the McLaughlin Library, the Learning Commons is a welcoming space where you can:

  • Study quietly or meet with friends in comfortable seating areas;
  • Get connected in the Library’s wireless environment;
  • Grab a bite to eat or something to drink at Williams coffee shop; and,
  • Access workshops, help desks, drop-in support, and individual assistance by appointment.

So, remember to take advantage of the Learning Commons’ award-winning programs and services. For further information, be sure to keep checking these blog entries throughout the summer – you’ll see more updates from both Learning Commons students and staff.

I can speak from experience the First resources are really helpful. The time management resources have taught me how to use my time wisely and limit procrastination. Supported Learning Groups have really helped me to stay on top of course materials. I have used many of the other resources and always had great success with them!
